After Prince's death, Paisley Park released a collection of previously unreleased songs - Prince's versions of songs he wrote for other artists.
The video for Nothing Compares 2 U is comprised of archived rehearsal footage, recut for the track.
This may sound silly to some people but Prince's death was a hard moment for me. To me Prince was a symbol of artistic mastery and an example of self confidence I could turn to when I needed to recenter my own.
I've kept a Purple Rain poster in every animation bullpen I've ever worked on. For that reason perhaps, word got around that I should have a crack at some of the graphics for Nothing Compares 2 U.
Prince - Nothing Compares 2 U
I got an urgent call on a Friday: drive to Hollywood and check out a hard drive from a maximum security vault in a former bank building. See what you can do with the footage. I stayed awake all weekend, working with directors to develop subtle purplish glints and auras that happened whenever Prince's guitar or jewelry would catch the light.

And you know what? Even though it looked great, it never made it in the video. Ultimately the footage just looked better untouched. Only one shot made the final cut: aetherial god-rays coming out of the love symbol. Why include this in a portfolio? It's not for you, it's for me. Because I worked on a Prince video. I can die happy.
